Cleave Tor
Cleave Tor on northern Dartmoor is a Tor with two very different sides to it!
The flat grassy approach from the top gives no hint of the dramatic cliff like backside which drops almost vertically from the summit down into the East Okement valley below. As someone who is terrified of heights, the first time I discovered this seemingly innocuous tor from the top I had the fright of my life when I realised what was at the back!
The views from the top are spectacular though, Belstone Tor up high in one direction and across the valley to little Scarey Tor to the north.
Easy to reach from various directions, including via a track from the road beside Cleave House, from Belstone or from walking beside the East Okement river from Fatherford Woods in Okehampton.
Height – 280 metres
