West Dartmoor
Pretty towns, beautiful countryside and stunning sights
Easily accessible from the A30 dual carriageway and Plymouth, the west side of Dartmoor has some wonderful areas to explore and some very pretty villages and towns to browse in.
The beautiful town of Tavistock is a key part of the West Devon and East Cornwall UNESCO World Heritage Site. The historic town centre has a sprawling square with town hall, guildhall and old courthouse all built in the Perpendicular Gothic style.
Yelverton is easily accessible from Plymouth and is close to Buckland Abbey, The Garden House and Burrator Reservoir, so it’s well placed for exploring the wider West Devon and Plymouth area, while also being a great base for exploring nearby open moorland.
Lifton’s location on the A30 also makes it a good hub for exploring; the village is most famous for being the home of Ambrosia, the dairy and pudding maker that’s become an important local employer.
There’s plenty to see and do in the area; climb up Brent Tor to visit the spectacular St Michael de Rupe Church, explore the natural beauty of Lydford Gorge and the wider moorland, much of which is easy to reach.
