Dartmoor Attractions
What takes your fancy?
Gardens
Indulge your inner horticulturalist at one of the many gardens on and around Dartmoor. Peaceful green spaces, woodlands, parks and formal gardens are all wonderful places to relax and recharge your batteries. Some with sculpture exhibitions, others with experts on hand to advise and inspire you, and those which simply take your breath away with their sheer beauty.
Family Friendly Fun
There are plenty of Family Attractions where the children can fall in love with miniature ponies and donkeys, ride on a steam train, watch piglet races, visit a zoo, see a ‘marble-run’, pet an Alpaca or take a ride on a heritage fairground ride. You can even watch otters playing and learn about tropical butterflies. If you want a bit of an adventure or fancy a challenge, try zip-wire fun or get a harness on and get yourself out of your comfort zone and onto a ’high-ropes’ circuit! Don’t forget to pop into one of the visitor centres on Dartmoor, so much for the children to learn about the history of the moor and have fun while they’re learning.
Creative Dartmoor
Dartmoor attracts artists and creative people, so there is a fabulous choice of Museums, Galleries and Craft Centres to explore and enjoy. You can join a sculpting course, spend quiet time in a gallery, take part in crafting sessions and learn fascinating history in a museum.
Nature
Be amazed by foaming waterfalls and deep gorges, spend a quiet afternoon exploring a sculpture exhibition in an arboretum, walk around one of the stunning reservoirs, or visit the farm that provided the inspiration behind War Horse. There are forests and woodlands, parks with stunning waterfalls and challenging trails, all part of the beautiful places you can enjoy nature on Dartmoor. Some of the reservoirs have facilities where you can go sailing or kayaking, walk your dog or simply enjoy the beauty as you gaze across the stretch of water.
