“ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.” Steven Spielberg.
Tor Royal is Dartmoor holiday accommodation with a royal history.
Built in 1785 by Thomas Tyrwhitt, secretary and friend of the Prince of the Wales, our Grade 2* listed farm has hosted many notable historic figures. Now offering bed and breakfast accommodation, delicious home-cooked evening meals and horseriding upon open moors, we can play host to you.
The original character features in our Georgian farmhouse will take your breath away. Think walled courtyards, granite bell towers and a guests’ lounge with a domed glass ceiling, unique plaster friezes and stunning fireplace. All rooms are en-suite and tastefully decorated with period furniture. One room is in the Art Deco style.
Our location, high upon the Princetown moors, is perfect for walkers and cyclists. Alternatively, let us show you where the Hound of the Baskerviles was set and War Horse filmed. Both are nearby, as is the Devonport Leat, which Sir Francis Drake built. We offer guided horse riding tours of the beautiful, unspoilt countryside that stretches for miles around from our very doorstep. Special horse riding breaks are available to suit all abilities.
