“ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.” Steven Spielberg.

Unique life-size horse sculpture

Unique life-size horse sculpture “Harry” unveiled at Two Bridges Hotel, crafted entirely from upcycled farm tools and scrap metal

Devon artist Ben Cox has unveiled his unique new sculpture of a life-size Arab horse, crafted from upcycled farm tools and scrap metal, in the Dartmoor setting of the Two Bridges Hotel.

The sculpture, which has been named Harry, was produced from many hundreds of individually sourced items ranging from the six keys hidden throughout the piece, to the dozens of vintage spanners, vehicle parts, agricultural components and recycled horseshoes, and was constructed on the Devon farm where artist Ben Cox grew up.

Sarah Howard, Hotel Director at the Two Bridges Hotel, commented: “We were so delighted that Ben chose the Two Bridges Hotel as the location in which to unveil his amazing new sculpture. It’s an incredible piece of work, with so much thought, creativity and technical skill behind it, and it’s already creating quite a talking point for our hotel guests and visitors!”

Talking about his new creation, Ben Cox commented: “This latest sculpture piece is the fourth of its style, with its predecessor, a red deer stag having sold through exhibition at RHS Garden Rosemoor near my home in Devon. Having grown up on a working farm, I have always been surrounded by animals, whether it be the local wildlife, livestock, or indeed horses, and I hope my love of such animals can be seen represented through my work, both past and future.”

The sculpture can be viewed at the Two Bridges Hotel until the end of September, before it moves to a permanent owner.
