Okehampton is home to the fascinating and magical Museum of Dartmoor Life which also houses the Okehampton Tourist Information Centre.
Picturesque Okehampton Castle (open in summer months) which dates to the Domesday Book sits in an elevated position above Okehampton’s Old Town Park Nature Reserve which offers some wonderful walks.
Simmons Park was gifted to the town by Sydney Simmons in 1907, with woodland walks, ornamental fountains and waterfalls, riverside walks, beautiful gardens, bowling green and a children’s adventure area; it has so much to offer.
The market town of Okehampton is richly served by charming independent shops as well as several major supermarkets. Red Lion Yard is a lovely retail area, which used to be the stabling yard of the Red Lion Hotel.
Not many towns, particularly small rural towns, can boast an original Victorian Arcade, such as can be seen in Okehampton. It offers the local community an eclectic range of independent retailers, providing everything from fresh produce to local services.
Okehampton is a Gateway to Dartmoor and the perfect base from which to go exploring.
