“ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.” Steven Spielberg.

Open Day and Fundraiser for Oke Pads

YHA Okehampton team climbing Everest

On Saturday 8th April join us at YHA Okehampton, when we try to climb Everest! We are fund raising for two great causes, Action for Children and local Charity Oke PADs (Public Access Defibrillators).

Our local quest is to raise funds to install a new defibrillator at the new Granite Way Cycle Hub onsite. We have worked with Oke PADS for many years and this local Charity assists with provision of community defibrillators throughout the town as well as offering free community training to anyone wanting to learn how to use one. These pieces of equipment help save lives and are available for everyone to use.

At YHA Okehampton we are seeing an increased footfall around the hostel, with the new Cafe & Bike hire centre near the public access to the Granite Way cycle trail & footpaths up onto Dartmoor. The new GWR Dartmoor Railway Line comes directly into the station across the footbridge, so people come to enjoy both YHA Okehampton and the Adventure Okehampton Activity Centre.

The staff teams at YHA Okehampton, Adventure Okehampton and the Granite Way Cycles will all be doing our own bit of fundraising to add to this pot, and we’d welcome any visitors to our open day, where you can help us reach our target, to get a new defib installed for our wonderful community to have access to as well as fund-raising for the other great cause Action for Children.

This is the first event for the year and there will be more!
Every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause!
