Explore the fascinating world of fungi with mycologist Dr Christian Taylor, Emma from Dartmoor’s Daughter and Daniel Thompson-Mills of Steward Community Woodland. You will already have a basic knowledge of fungi and this intermediate level session will explore in more depth this marvellous kingdom of nature. Session will include:

  • Wood cavitation and insect accommodation

  • Fungal role in supporting Biodiversity

  • Latin names of 3 Divisions (Ascomycotina, Basidiomycota and Duetero / Myxomycotina).

  • Mycelial pairings

  • Microscope view of mycorrhizal roots

  • Microscope view of mycelium

  • Mated and unmated mycelia clamp connections

  • The 3 outcomes of mycelial mating

  • Culturing mycelia from the wild

  • Cultivating mycelia – basic techniques

  • Smelling the Truffle

  • Tasting of any edibles if found, drinking immunitea

  • Latin names to be introduced more widely, alongside the common names
