“ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.” Steven Spielberg.

Dianne hangs up her boots

Dianne McPherson, a stalwart Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE), as both supervisor and assessor for the Dartmoor Assessor Network, has hung up her boots having contributed over thirty years of volunteering. After helping to run the Award in Stover School, Dianne set up Teignbridge Independents so that individuals, not in any specific group or who attended schools and organizations that were not directly involved with DofE, could undertake the Award. Her main involvement was to train, shadow, facilitate and signpost participants to undertake the many different strands that make up the Award. However, she also got thoroughly immersed in the practical elements of conservation work on Dartmoor in addition to teaching the young people the skills required to complete the expedition element. She became a Gold Assessor with the Dartmoor Assessor Network, previously known as the Dartmoor Expedition Panel, helping many teams from all over the country complete their expedition challenge.
