Paul’s walking customers range from local people, to visitors and tourists or school groups.

His knowledge of Dartmoor is extraordinarily broad and he has a love for many specific areas of the moor, but a particular favourite is around Burrator, the subject of one of the many books he has written, another is Cut Hill – right in the heart of the moor. ‘You need to know what you are doing to get to Cut Hill – but it’s great. You rarely see anyone, and are left purely with the sounds of birds and other wildlife. If I want to be on my own that’s where I’d go.’

As a keen local historian, Paul has written many articles for newspapers and magazines and wrote his first book, called ‘Exploring the Lower Walkham Valley’. In 1991 he founded the ‘Dartmoor News’, a bi monthly magazine which he still edits today.

Paul is frequently out and about gathering information on matters relating to Dartmoor. For a number of years he was the Conservation Officer for the Dartmoor Preservation Association. In 2011 he started working for the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust leading walks and doing conservation work at Bellever near Postbridge.

Paul has now been a Dartmoor National Park Guide for over 21 years, and is now a member of the Moorland Guides.

He can do themed walks, including wildflowers, tor bagging, letterboxing, painted rocks, film locations including War Horse.

If you would like a guided walk and an illustrated talk please contact Paul or see his website for a list public walks.
