“ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.” Steven Spielberg.
Castle Drogo is situated high above the Teign Gorge. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for self-made millionaire Julius Drewe. It looks ancient, but this remarkable building was only constructed 100 years ago, the last castle ever built in England.
Outside the castle, stroll around the formal gardens, alive with colour throughout the seasons. Or explore the Teign Valley with its ancient gorge, teeming with wildlife. There’s a variety of routes to suit all abilities.
No visit is complete without a stop to recharge in the café, serving traditional Devon cream teas and many more seasonal and locally sourced options.
