Nestled within a picturesque valley in the environmentally sensitive area of Dartmoor National Park, we can offer the perfect base from which to explore and discover the wild beauty and majesty of this spectacular landscape.
Surrounded by unspoilt patchworks of fields, hedgerows, stonewalls, woodland, and granite tors, the neighbouring farmland is in an organic higher level. We are a level 1/2 mile walk from the picturesque village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor where the world famous Widecombe Fair dating back to 1850, still takes place every year. Local amenities in the village include a local post office, gift shops, children’s outside play area, riding stables and a National Trust Information Centre. A choice of cafes and traditional Inns which source and provide fine local produce ensure an authentic taste of Devon.
Wooder Manor is an ideal central location for touring Devon and exploring Dartmoor. Walkers are spoilt for choice with walks to suit everyone starting from the doorstep, and it is just a leisurely stroll to a hike on the moors. There are fantastic opportunities for horse riding, cycling, canoeing, fishing, golf, rock climbing painting and bird watching, or just simply relax and take in the breath taking views from one of our cosy cottages.
Dartmoor is rich in prehistoric remains with the medieval settlements at Hound Tor and Grimspound being very good examples and at Haytor the granite tramway is still clearly visible. Guests also enjoy the folklore and mythical legends for which Dartmoor is renowned -Jay’s grave, Hairy Hands, Wistmans Wood, and it was the setting and inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous book, the Hound of the Baskervilles.

Woodlands Leisure Park, Penny Well Farm, Go Ape Treetop Adventure, Haldon Forest activity Park, Splashdown Water Park, Paignton Zoo, Haytor, Bone Hill, Castle Drogo, Buckfast Abbey, Lydford Gorge, Saltram House, Becky Falls, Dart Valley Railway. For those who would also like to visit the coast, there are miles of sandy beaches to choose from within 30 minutes drive.
Wooder Manor provides five unique holiday homes named after the overlooking granite tors. The cottages and converted coach house sleeping 2/4 and 4/6 are clean and well equipped all with central heating. Two properties are on the ground floor and Lower Hameldown has a wheel-in shower. There is a courtyard for safe off the road parking and a large shared garden with picnic benches to enjoy your meals in the sunshine.
We also provide free of charge, safe storage for bikes and Kayaks. All the holiday homes are very well equipped and furnished, including a fitted kitchen with full-sized cooker, microwave oven, fridge , freezer in most cases and a good range of crockery and utensils, TV/DVD, iron and ironing board are also provided. For our youngest guests, cots, z-beds and high chairs are available free of charge. Duvets, blankets and pillows are supplied and bed linen is available by arrangement. There is a separate laundry building which houses washing machines and tumble driers. Central heating is supplied from September to end of May and is included in the total price. Each property has a coal effect electric fire, bathroom wall heater and convector/fan heaters. Honeybags Cottage has a woodburner with logs included during the winter months.
The beauty of Dartmoor changes with every season, Wooder Manor is open all year round so that you may enjoy this beautiful landscape no matter the time of year. We also offer short breaks and the option of private B&B too
