Located just off the western edge of Dartmoor on the border between Devon and Cornwall, the hotel overlooks an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a UNESCO World Heritage site. It also provides an excellent choice for tourers, walkers and food lovers alike.
There is loads to explore here! For heritage lovers and history buffs, Cotehele, Morwellham Quay, The Garden House and Buckland Abbey are all within an easy 20 minute drive. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock and the Eden project are a little further, but well worth the drive. Both North and South coasts are easily reached within an hour.
Outdoor enthusiasts will be equally happy, with thousands of walking and cycling trails on offer in the Tamar Valley and on Dartmoor. There’s also canoeing, horse-riding, golf and so much more! The hotel’s team will be more than happy to help you plan your perfect day.
The hotel’s 16 bedrooms are luxurious and well equipped. Rooms in the Main House are large and traditionally furnished. Original Coach House rooms are country in style and boast stunning valley views. New Coach House rooms (built in 2014) are large and contemporary. Most rooms have balconies overlooking the gardens and the stunning Tamar Valley. All ground floor Coach House rooms are also dog friendly.
Food features highly on the menu here; the restaurant has been well renouned for almost 60 years and uses only the very best seasonal produce, sourced from local growers. The dinner menu might include a starter of torched mackerel, mackerel tartar, dill mayonnaise, radish, cucumber, lemon, followed by a loin of Devon lamb with wild garlic, spring onions and a morel jus. Signature dessert dishes include a Chocolate and passion fruit mousse with a hazelnut monte and a mango sorbet.
