“ I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.” Steven Spielberg.

East Dart Inn

Postbridge

About

The East Dart Inn has been part of the community in Postbridge since 1862, when John Webb built the coaching inn, and the Inn and bed and breakfast rooms have recently been fully renovated and restored to reflect its history with modern conveniences. We are dog friendly, and have free wi-fi throughout.

All nine rooms are en-suite rooms as is our bunk house and the bar retains a painted frieze above the settles beside the log fire. We also have dog friendly rooms available, as well as a family room for four.

The Inn has a range of local ales on tap, as well as cider, lager and our own pilsner. We also have a large selection of gins and other drinks.

Food is available all day, from a cream tea to Sunday roasts. We also have a wood fired pizza oven which produces fabulous pizzas made to order.

The East Dart Inn is situated close to the 13th century clapper bridge, which crosses the East Dart River, and also near to the Dartmoor National Park visitor centre. There are many walks in the local area, as well as being at the heart of Dartmoor, and all that has to offer.

It is said that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle based Postbridge as his fictional village of Grimpen, in The Hound of the Baskervilles, which was set on Dartmoor.

The Lych Way walk starts in nearby Bellever Forest. This is a 12 mile long distance bridleway, on which people carried the dead to be buried at Lydford parish church to be buried.
