An Intermediate Navigation course is perfect if you have some experience of walking but want to get off the beaten track.
Who is it for?
People with basic walking experience wanting to take their skills off the paths and tracks.
A general level of fitness is required for a days walking in open moorland.
Basic hill or moorland walking experience required, including the ability to take a simple bearing.
Having completed our Basic Navigation course is useful and normally maximises your learning on the Intermediate course. However, it is not essential if you already have experience of self navigating simple walks.
Outcomes of the Course
To be able to independently plan and carry out a safe, efficient and effective walk off the paths and tracks.
To have an understanding of more advanced compass skills and poor visibility navigation.
To be able to apply tactical navigation methods and navigational aids.
To have an understanding of the environment, and access.
Most importantly, to be confident to explore off paths and tracks to discover new places.
This course will be run by a qualified Mountain Leader or higher who is a National Navigation Award Scheme Provider.
