Nestled on the Western fringe of the Dartmoor National Park and opposite the National Trust entrance for Lydford Gorge, the alpaca boys – Batman, Joker, Bubbles, Barney, Penfold, Macca, Mr Sharps, Jasper, Clifton, Ocado, Tucker and Mr T – are waiting to give you a warm Devon welcome to their home. Spending time with these gentle, curious and affectionate animals will lift your spirits, restore your energy and wellbeing, all whilst breathing in the fresh Dartmoor air. Prepare to have your hearts well and truly stolen!
There is an experience to suit all ages and abilities. Our 3 hour Alpaca Trekking experience will have you leading your own alpaca across a picturesque moorland track in Dartmoor National Park. We walk rather slowly as alpacas do not like to rush so you do not need to worry about being able to keep up – think of it as an amble with a furry pal at your side whilst soaking up the peaceful atmosphere and getting the biggest boost to your wellbeing. Alpacas are known for being therapy animals and you will know why as soon as you meet them! We follow a stony bridleway out towards Brentor Church which sits high on top of an extinct volcanic cone. With far reaching views in every direction, you get to gaze at Great Links, Brat and Alms Tor on the return (if you can take your eyes off of your new pal!) Wild Dartmoor ponies, Highland Cattle and various sheep breeds add colour and interest to the experience as well as the changing colours of the flora across the seasons – this is truly a magical place whatever month you choose (from swathes of yellow gorse to sparkling frosts and misty mornings!).
Or choose an Animal Encounter experience and get a whole exclusive hour just for your party with all of the alpacas and our sweet woolly sheep. This is an up close and interactive session so expect lots of fun and animal antics. Whether it is showering the alpacas down as they dance about in the water or sitting by their side whilst they munch hay from your hands, if you love animals then this experience is a must for kids of all ages and adults alike. It is also your chance to get up close and cuddle a sheep – our sweet boy Snowball will follow you around trying to get noticed. As this experience is exclusive just for your party it can be set up and adapted for your needs. Just check with us before booking if you have any special requirements as we can cater for most needs – there is step free access from your car into the main paddock along with a large area of stone flooring.
If you do not have a car then just grab the bus from Okehampton or Tavistock. It stops right outside the farm entrance. If the bus schedule does not fit in well with the times of your experience just contact us as we may be able to tweak things for you.
